Day 124

Dear Scott,

Today would have been your 53rd birthday. After your autopsy, the medical examiner told me you were in great physical health. You would likely have lived many more years. I know your mental health was a different story, that you were hanging on day by day. I am terribly forlorn today. I am thinking of all the things you could have done and all the places we could have seen together.

My brother and I have spent the last two days visiting your parents. They've made him feel really comfortable, like they've known him for years. They have done this because they know how much he loves you, and because they love me so much. I, too, love them dearly.

I am so grateful I chose to come here for Thanksgiving and your birthday. I'm not sure I would have gotten out of bed had I stayed home.

I love you with all my heart. God be with you til we meet again.

(The pic is from Scott's 40th b-day when we lived in Northern Virginia. I had 40 long stem red roses sent to his office.)
